Q.  How do I get started entering data?

A.  There are 2 things that must be completed when first entering a new business.  1. Complete the details module on the homepage and then complete the Land tab which is located in the capital module.  (The Land tab must be completed prior to entering any other information elsewhere within the program.)

Q.  Which month do I enter?

A.  AgriGater works similarly to cash accounting.  The month the payment occurs is the month entered, regardless of when the product or service was supplied.

Q.  I own land that is leased out.  Is this entered as owned or leased?

A.  Land that is owned by the business is always entered as owned irrespective of what the land is used for and by whom.

Q.  How do I add a new paddock in the crops module?

A.  Click on the green cross button either on the crops module homepage or when within the paddock information of another paddock.

Q. Why is the operation entry tabs divided up into seasons instead of months?

A. The tabs prompt users to think about what they may be doing at certain times of the year. Growers often find themselves doing things on a seasonal basis and can relate that easily to time of year and crop stage. The tabs also cut down on the amount of data that the user needs in front of them at the entry point. The alternative is to have one long list for each crop. Finally any month of the year can be chosen in any tabbed season and all the reports are generated using the month the operation is expected to be carried out, not the season.

Q. What does the plus ( + ) and minus ( - ) sign mean in the month drop down list?

A. By choosing the minus ( - ) sign you are indicating that the action (cost, income, operation) occurred prior to the year you are developing your projections on. Likewise, if you choose the plus ( + ) sign the opposite applies.

Q. Why does the application of fertilizer via the irrigation system get entered in the operation module instead of the water module?

A. The water module was added to the program specifically to assist growers decide which crop will give them the best return/ML and to help them strategically plan their water needs. The cost of the fertilizer and associated costs of applying it via the water is accounted for in the crop module as an operation. This is consistent with fertilizer applied the conventional way with a tractor and spreader.

Q. I can’t work out where to put freight, cartage and cases?

A. They are considered 'sale costs' and go in a pop up screen (along with royalties, levies and storage costs) when you put in a marketing entry. You won't be able to complete a marketing entry until you enter them. You can modify the sale costs for a highlighted marketing entry by clicking the 'edit list' icon.

Q. If I enter a payment in the non-capital or drawing in the capital module and choose quarterly in the frequency drop down, will it matter which month its starts?

A. No. The actions will show in the reports as occurring every three months, starting with the month you chose.

Q. I entered an input for an operation in the crop module but it didn't attach to the right operation, why?

A. Make sure the operation that applies to your input is highlighted. You will also notice a dual box system in the capital module where transactions are attached to certain loans or investments.

Q. I feel that many varieties are different and often have different requirements depending on seasonal conditions etc, but I’m not keen to record every watering, what is the benefit of doing so?

A. Some of the benefits of being accurate with water planning in a year of reduced allocations is making decisions based on the most profitable use of water. It’s important to know which farm, block or crop generates the greatest net margin against your most limiting resources (in this case water). It’s also important when making water trading decisions to know when your peak water usage is and how far your carry over and current allocation will get you. As with any program the quality of data output is directly related to the information entered.

Q. The program will not recognise a decimal point unless it is preceded by a number - why?

A. That has carried over from our science background where it is accepted practice to precede less than a whole number with a zero.

Q. Why can’t I shear any sheep? It keeps telling me I have no sheep.

A. The shearing is based on the number of sheep shorn in the "Number Shorn Box" for that shearing period (Not the number of sheep you have in a mob, entered elsewhere in the program). In this case (Shown Below) you have two shearing periods to choose from 1 Feb with only 1 sheep or the 15 - 29th March with 990 sheep.
